Tam Anh Research Institute (TAMRI), part of the Tam Anh General Hospital Group, recently held a seminar titled “Approach To Diagnosing Urinary Tract Infections And Hematuria.” The event gathered numerous healthcare professionals from both within and outside the hospital.

The seminar featured presentations from experts at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, including:

Assoc. Professor Vu Le Chuyen opened the event by expressing gratitude to the speakers, attendees, and sponsor, Sysmex Vietnam Co., Ltd. In his presentation, he highlighted that 50% to 85% of adults experience urinary tract infections (UTIs) at some point in their lives, and UTIs are a leading cause of chronic kidney disease in developing countries. He emphasized that treatment is often neglected, and if not addressed promptly, UTIs can lead to kidney scarring, kidney stones, and renal failure.

Ta Phuong Dung, MD, continued with a presentation focused on hematuria. She noted that hematuria is a common symptom, accounting for approximately 20% of urological evaluations, and microhematuria affects 2.4% to 31.1% of the healthy population. She discussed diagnostic tests for hematuria and its underlying causes, stressing that identifying the cause of hematuria can be complex and often requires advanced diagnostic testing.

Tran Thi Thanh Nga, MD, discussed the advantages and disadvantages of various urine diagnostic methods, including dipsticks, automated urine sediment analysis, and urine cultures. She emphasized the high safety and accuracy of the new fluorescence flow cytometry technology, UF 4000/5000, which has been validated by numerous studies. However, she underscored that routine urinalysis and urine sediment examination remain essential screening tests.
