To provide updated knowledge on the impact of RSV in infants and introduce new, effective prevention solutions to physicians and healthcare professionals, the Tam Anh Research Institute – Tam Anh HCMC General Hospital is organizing a conference titled: “RSV in Infants: Disease Burden and New Prevention Solutions”. The event will take place on March 20, 2025, at the Conference Hall, Tam Anh Research Institute (2B Pho Quang Street, Ward 2, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City).

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is one of the most common causes of respiratory illness and a leading reason for infant hospitalizations requiring intensive care and treatment. RSV infections tend to be more severe in young children, particularly in infants under 3 months old, premature infants, those with weakened immune systems, or those with underlying conditions such as immunodeficiency, lung disease, or congenital heart disease. If not detected and treated properly and in time, RSV can cause serious damage to the respiratory tract, lead to multi-organ complications, and pose a life-threatening risk to the child.
RSV can spread rapidly through contact with virus-containing droplets in the air, which are released into the environment when an infected person coughs, sneezes, blows their nose, or talks. Moreover, RSV can survive for extended periods on commonly touched surfaces such as drinking glasses, tabletops, door handles, and washcloths, posing a risk of infection when children accidentally touch these surfaces and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth. Without effective control and prevention measures, RSV can lead to outbreaks, placing a heavy burden on both the community and the healthcare system.
The conference “RSV in Infants: Disease Burden and New Prevention Solutions” is a key professional development event, part of the regular scientific seminar series organized by the Tam Anh Research Institute – Tam Anh HCMC General Hospital. The event aims to share professional knowledge and practical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of RSV, helping to enhance the expertise of doctors and healthcare staff at the hospital.
Notably, the event will feature the participation of Prof. Manuel Sanchez Luna, MD, PhD, who is:
- Medical Director, Department of Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care, Gregorio Marañón General Hospital
- Professor of Pediatrics, Complutense University of Madrid, Spain
- President of the Spanish Society of Neonatology
- Chair of the Neonatal Intensive Care Section under the European Society for Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care.
D, PhD, will deliver 2 keynotes “The Burden of RSV in Infants and Public Health: The Impact of Prevention Strategies for All Infants”, and “Lessons from Spain: A Parent’s Guide: The Importance of RSV Prevention in Infants”. These topics aim to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive perspective on the burden of RSV and new approaches to prevention in infants, contributing to improved care and better protection of children’s health from the earliest days of life.
