On the occasion of its third anniversary, the Tam Anh Research Institute has announced the Tam Anh – Oxford Partnership: Research support programme. This bilateral initiative between the Tam Anh Research Institute and the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) aims to connect Oxford’s world-leading biomedical expertise with the clinical strengths and infrastructure of the Institute and the broader Tam Anh General Hospital Group.
The programme opens a gateway for physicians and researchers across the Tam Anh ecosystem to work directly alongside leading experts from the University of Oxford.
It particularly encourages early career researchers as a co-PI, including medical doctors, postdoctoral researchers, or equivalent… (with PI supervision and appropriate employment contract extension); interdisciplinary teams spanning relevant research areas (cancer biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, clinical medicine, implementation science); researchers at the formative stages of new collaborations are seeking seed funding to establish partnership activities. This is not merely a collaboration agreement; it is a concrete step toward translating scientific ideas into real-world impact.

The programme is the result of a long-term, in-depth development strategy. Prior to this announcement, the Tam Anh Research Institute and the University of Oxford had already established a foundation through training programmes designed to cultivate internationally standardised research skills and mindsets among Vietnam’s scientific community.
Six priority research areas have been identified for this programme:
- Enhancing early access and health equity for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
- Advancements in reproductive health.
- New mechanisms of action in immunology.
- Innovations in regenerative medicine and cellular therapies.
- Next-generation vaccinology and capacity building.
- Drug discovery from traditional and natural medicines.

The Tam Anh Research Institute is equipped with automated systems supporting comprehensive testing across cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, endocrinology, metabolism, immunological disorders, oncology, and more.
A defining feature of the programme is its streamlined selection process, specifically designed to remove barriers in the early stages of establishing international partnerships. Researchers proactively submit proposals and collaboration needs for review by a scientific review committee. Only upon formal approval do Vietnamese researchers proceed to select suitable Oxford specialists and jointly enter the project launch phase.
The programme marks a significant advancement in the strategic relationship between the Tam Anh Research Institute and the University of Oxford. Building on the foundation laid by prior capacity-building initiatives, it is set to serve as a firm launchpad enabling Vietnamese researchers to bring their ideas to fruition and translate them into practical application.

The announcement also reflects a broader strategy to advance large-scale cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom across science, technology, and education, a continuation of the high-level collaborative direction outlined by General Secretary To Lam during his visit to Oxford, where he witnessed the signing of the collaboration agreement between the Tam Anh Research Institute and the University of Oxford on 28 October 2025.
The Tam Anh Research Institute, the Tam Anh General Hospital Group, and the University of Oxford jointly signed a cooperation agreement on training exchange, research, and healthcare innovation, in the presence of General Secretary To Lam and Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, on 28 October 2025 in the United Kingdom.
The announcement, timed to coincide with the Institute’s third anniversary, carries profound symbolic significance for the Tam Anh Research Institute, affirming that the Institute has grown not only in scale, but is steadily establishing itself as an internationally connected centre for biomedical research and education, delivering tangible value to patients and the broader community.
